WMD-Evo (UK) — a shop known for building and upgrading Evos only. Their experience and feedback were a big part of this project.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack in 2016, we made our first “top-mount” Evo shifter. It worked great for the time and we sold many of them, but the world changed. Back then, nobody cared about cutting plastic, removing the center console, or modifying panels. Today, most Evo owners want clean installs and OEM-level fitment. So we decided to build something very different.\u003cbr\u003e______________________________________\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Story Behind It\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur first Evo shifter (Gen 4 to Gen 9) was originally made for race cars with no interior, so cutting a large hole in the factory panel didn’t matter. Owners made it work — some even swapped 6-speed console plastics because the hole was bigger and required less trimming.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut the truth is simple - nobody likes cutting their interior.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSo in 2025, we went back to the beginning. We 3D-scanned the Evo 7\/8\/9 interior, 3D-scanned the surrounding plastics, measured every limitation, and redesigned everything from zero.\u003cbr\u003e______________________________________\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Challenge\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe OEM 5-speed console has a small opening for the stock shifter. Under the plastic, there is plenty of room — but the visible top hole is the limiting factor.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur goal:\u003cbr\u003emake a complete short-shifter system that fits through the factory trim without cutting.\u003cbr\u003eAnd to do that, nothing from the old model could be reused.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSo we made new:\u003cbr\u003e•⁠  ⁠handle\u003cbr\u003e•⁠ Toyota discontinued OEM parts long time ago, and the aftermarket offered no proper solution — until now.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Story Behind It\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo answer the community’s call, our Coolerworx R\u0026amp;D team decided to take on the challenge the right way — by purchasing a Celica GT ourselves.\u003cbr\u003eWe conducted a full 3D scan of the car’s interior to ensure perfect fitment and precise dimensions for the new shifter and its surrounding trim.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a shifter that not only restores the original shifting performance but elevates it far beyond factory level — delivering the precision, feel, and quality that every GT-Four owner deserves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Challenge\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMost Celica GT-Four ST205 cars are now more than 25 years old, and many of the original shifter parts are worn out.\u003cbr\u003eThe stock shift cables have rubber inserts that, after all these years, become soft and cracked, causing unwanted play and poor feedback.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo fix this, we first made our own tools to replace those parts. Then we built a full selector rebuild kit, replacing the rubber inserts with solid aluminum ones.\u003cbr\u003eThis removed the extra play and gave the gearbox a much better, more direct feel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhat Makes It Special\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTogether with our Cable and Selector Rebuild Kit, the Coolerworx short shifter completely changes the way the Celica shifts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt has a longer handle than the OEM version, making gear changes quicker and easier.\u003cbr\u003eA centering spring
